The long bay
A wide curve of beach and promenade forms the town's seaward edge. It is the single strongest line on the map and gives the print its shape.

Te mapa
Whitley Bay faces the North Sea just north of the mouth of the Tyne. From above, its most striking feature is the coastline: a broad, gently curved sweep of sand edged by a promenade, with rows of terraced streets running inland from the seafront. North of the town the shore turns rocky, and St Mary's Island sits just offshore.
The town grew as a resort in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and the Spanish City, with its white dome, is still its best-known building. St Mary's Lighthouse stands on the island and can be reached on foot along a causeway at low tide, which gives the map an unusual detail where the land briefly reaches into the sea.
A Whitley Bay map poster balances two halves. On one side lies the empty water, and on the other the regular terraces, parks and the Metro line that links the town to Newcastle. The coast forms a clean edge right through the middle of the composition.
A wide curve of beach and promenade forms the town's seaward edge. It is the single strongest line on the map and gives the print its shape.
A small island to the north carries the lighthouse and joins the mainland by a tidal causeway that shows as a thin line across the shore.
Parallel rows of Victorian and Edwardian terraces run back from the seafront and create a fine, regular texture behind the coast.

Koteā ko Whitley Bay
For many people from Tyneside, Whitley Bay means childhood summers, walks along the front or a first flat by the sea. A map of its coast captures that feeling without needing a photograph.
You can personalise the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the sea especially well, and Noir makes the coastline look sharply drawn.
