Wylie lies in Collin County, northeast of Dallas, on the southern side of Lavon Lake. The town grew up around a railroad in the late nineteenth century and was named after a railway right-of-way agent. For much of the twentieth century it remained small, before expanding rapidly as the Dallas metropolitan area pushed outward.
On a map, Wylie shows two distinct patterns. The historic downtown has a small, regular grid of streets near the rail line, while newer neighbourhoods spread out in loops and curves around it. To the north, the irregular shoreline of Lavon Lake creates a clear boundary, with parks and open land along the water.
A Wylie map poster captures a town in transition, where an old railroad grid sits inside a much larger suburban pattern. The lake adds a strong natural edge, and major roads connect the town to Plano, Garland and Dallas. In black and white, the mix of straight and curved lines gives the map a lively, detailed texture.
The lake’s irregular edge forms the northern boundary of the town, with inlets and open land breaking up the street pattern near the water.
The original town grid near the railroad is small and orderly, a compact centre surrounded by much newer neighbourhoods.
Residential areas built in recent decades use curving streets and cul-de-sacs, spreading outward from the older core in soft, rounded patterns.
