Te mapa
Xintai is a county-level city administered by Tai'an in Shandong province, set in the uplands east of Mount Tai. On a map the urban area occupies a fairly flat basin, with farmland and villages spread across it and hills rising at its edges. The streets form a broadly rectilinear pattern. Long main roads run through the centre, and newer districts extend the grid outward.
The city grew substantially in the twentieth century on the strength of coal mining, which shaped both its economy and where settlements sit around it. On the map, industrial sites, rail spurs and workers' housing areas appear as separate clusters linked by roads. The same pattern shows up in mining towns across northern China.
The name can be read as New Tai, a reference to the region around Mount Tai, one of China's most revered mountains. A Xintai map poster renders the city in clean lines: the central grid, the surrounding patchwork of fields and villages, and the rising ground around the basin. It is a quiet portrait of a place that rarely appears on maps abroad.
The core of the city is laid out in broad blocks along straight main roads. From above, the centre has a clear and orderly structure.
Low mountains and hills surround the flatter land the city sits on, so a wider frame shows the urban area held within rising terrain.
Mining areas, past and present, and their rail connections form separate clusters around the city. They add irregular shapes to the regular pattern of the centre.

Koteā ko Xintai
For people who grew up in Xintai and now live elsewhere in China or abroad, a map of the city is a simple, personal link to home. Well-made posters of places like this are hard to find, which makes one a meaningful gift.
