Xitole lies in the Bafatá region in the interior of Guinea-Bissau. The landscape here is a mix of savanna, woodland and river valleys, and from above the town appears as a small cluster of streets and compounds surrounded by open country and dirt roads leading to neighbouring villages.
The region is crossed by the Corubal river, one of the country's main waterways, and much of the land around Xitole is used for farming. Roads connecting the town to Bafatá and other centres form the main lines on the map, with smaller tracks spreading out into the surrounding countryside.
