Te mapa
Yengisar lies in the Kashgar region of Xinjiang, south of Kashgar itself. Here the desert of the Tarim Basin meets the foothills of the Pamir mountains. From above, it reads as an oasis. A compact town sits among a patchwork of irrigated fields, and long canals and poplar-lined roads divide the farmland into narrow strips.
The town is best known across China for its handmade knives. Local workshops have practised the craft for generations, and the blades, with their decorated handles, are sold throughout the region. Most of that work happens in small workshops on ordinary streets, so none of it shows on the map.
A Yengisar map poster captures that agricultural geometry: straight irrigation lines, field boundaries meeting at angles, and a town centre that stands out as a denser knot within the green. Printed in monochrome, the pattern looks almost like a textile, which is fitting for a place built around craft.
Canals and ditches carry meltwater from the mountains across the fields in long parallel lines. They give the outskirts of the map a strong, ruled texture.
The built-up core forms a compact cluster within the farmland. Its streets are tighter and less regular than the straight roads that lead out to the fields.
The main road north towards Kashgar cuts diagonally through the landscape, a clear line that ties the oasis to the wider Silk Road region.

Koteā ko Yengisar
Yengisar is on the old routes between Kashgar and the southern oases, and anyone who has travelled that way will recognise how it looks: a town that exists because water reaches it. The map makes a clear, graphic piece that works in a hallway or a study.
