Te mapa
Yokoshiba lies in the northern part of Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo, and is now part of the town of Yokoshibahikari. It sits on the low coastal plain that runs down to the long Kujūkuri shoreline of the Pacific. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets surrounded by a wide mosaic of rice paddies and farmland.
The streets of the centre are narrow and closely packed, following older roads rather than a planned grid. Around the edges, houses stretch along routes into the countryside. A Yokoshiba map poster shows a small, dense settlement within the sharp rectangles of irrigated paddy fields.
Low wooded rises and small shrines break up the flat farmland, and drainage channels run in straight lines across the plain toward the sea. The ocean coast lies a few kilometres east. In black and white, the town, the paddies and the channels form a clear, ordered image of rural Japan near the capital.
Rice paddies surround the town in regular rectangles. On the map they form a fine, orderly pattern that frames the denser streets at the centre.
The town's core is a tight cluster of narrow streets along older roads. It gives the poster a clear focal point on the flat plain.
Straight channels cross the farmland toward the coast, draining the low plain. Their long lines add direction and structure to the composition.
