Te mapa
Yunjinghong, usually known simply as Jinghong, is the capital of the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in the far south of Yunnan. It sits on the Mekong, called the Lancang in China, where the river runs through a wide valley, and the city spreads along the water with districts on both banks linked by bridges.
The street map is largely modern, with broad avenues and planned blocks, but its setting is unusual for a Chinese city. The climate is tropical, and the surrounding hills carry rubber plantations, tea gardens and remaining forest. The Mekong gives the map its main shape, a wide curving band of water through the middle of the frame.
Jinghong is the centre of Dai culture in China, and each April it holds the Water-Splashing Festival marking the Dai new year. Since 2021 the city has also been a stop on the railway linking Kunming with Vientiane in Laos. A Yunjinghong map poster shows the river, the bridges and the city grid in a calm black-and-white composition.
The Lancang-Mekong runs through the city in a broad curve, the dominant feature of the poster and a clear divide between the districts on either bank.
Several road bridges cross the Mekong within the city, each a sharp straight line across the water that ties the two halves of the map together.
Wide, regular streets organise the city centre into large blocks, a clean modern pattern that contrasts with the winding roads leading out into the hills.

Koteā ko Yunjinghong
Jinghong draws travellers heading toward Laos and the tea hills of Xishuangbanna, and it is home to Dai, Han and many other communities. A map of the river city is a considered reminder of a journey south or of a family home near the Mekong.
