Te mapa
Zainsk lies in the east of Tatarstan on the Zay river, a tributary system of the Kama. The settlement began as a fortress on a seventeenth-century defensive line, but most of what appears on a map today dates from the Soviet period, when a large power station and new housing districts reshaped the town.
The Zainsk reservoir stretches beside the town as a long, narrow body of water, and it dominates any map of the area. Residential neighbourhoods sit on the higher bank in rectangular blocks, while the older, lower-density part of town keeps a looser pattern of individual houses and short streets.
A Zainsk map poster shows both layers clearly: the straight lines of the planned districts, the irregular edges of the older quarter, and the wide sweep of water that gives the composition its weight. It is a good example of how a reservoir can become the central feature of a town.
A long body of water created on the Zay river runs alongside the town, forming the largest single shape on the map and a clear natural boundary.
The expansion of Zainsk is tied to its thermal power station, and the planned housing that followed shows as orderly blocks with broad connecting roads.
Smaller streets with detached houses survive in parts of town, giving a finer, more irregular texture next to the Soviet-era grid.
