Te mapa
La Zubia lies just south of Granada, where the flat, fertile plain of the vega meets the first slopes of the Sierra Nevada. From above, the town has two characters: a tighter, older core with narrow, winding streets, and newer residential areas that have spread across the flatter land toward the city. Roads climb steadily as they head toward the mountains.
The town is part of Granada's metropolitan area, and the boundary between Zubia and its neighbours is hard to see on the map. To the south and east, the terrain rises into the protected natural area of the Sierra Nevada, and the street pattern breaks up into scattered houses and tracks among the hills.
A Zubia map poster shows this meeting of plain and mountain clearly. Local tradition holds that Queen Isabella took shelter behind a laurel bush here during a skirmish in the siege of Granada in 1491, a story remembered in the place name Laurel de la Reina. It is a small, well-loved piece of Andalusian history.
Narrow streets in the older part of town twist and branch, reflecting a layout shaped over centuries rather than planned in one piece.
On the Granada side, newer streets spread across flat ground in a more regular pattern, merging with the city's southern suburbs.
Toward the mountains, roads become winding tracks and the built-up area thins out, giving the poster's upper edge an open, rural feel.

Koteā ko Zubia
Zubia appeals to people who know Granada well, those who chose to live a little closer to the mountains, and anyone who loves the view from the foothills over the plain. Its map is both local and part of a larger landscape.
