Gezira canals
Long, straight irrigation canals cross the plain and divide it into large rectangular blocks. Outside the town itself, they are the strongest pattern on the poster.

关于地图
Al Hilāliyya Map Poster & Print
Al Hilāliyya is a town in Al Jazirah State, not far west of the Blue Nile, on the Gezira, the broad plain between the Blue Nile and the White Nile south of Khartoum. The land is almost perfectly flat. For about a century it has been shaped by the Gezira Scheme, a huge irrigation project that turned the plain into a patchwork of canal-fed fields.
On the map, the town is a compact grid of houses and courtyards, while the countryside around it is divided by long straight canals and field boundaries. Main canals and smaller branch canals split off in regular patterns, so the surroundings look almost like a diagram, sharp and repeating across the whole frame.
An Al Hilāliyya map poster makes the most of that geometry. The town appears as a dense knot within an orderly farming grid, with the Blue Nile a short distance to the east. It is a map about how water organises land in a dry climate, as much as a portrait of a single community.

Courtyard town
The built-up area is made of closely spaced houses and enclosed yards, forming a compact grid that stands out against the open fields.
Blue Nile nearby
The Blue Nile flows a short way to the east, and the map can include its course as a soft curve beside the straight lines of the scheme.

为什么选Al Hilāliyya
一张有意义的地图
Many Sudanese families have been scattered by recent years of conflict, and a map of a home town is one way of keeping it close. This one is precise and understated, and it suits a living room or makes a thoughtful gift.
You can add a name, a date or a short dedication as the title and subtitle, edit the coordinates line and choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Blueprint makes the canal network read like a technical plan.
