Bumba Map Poster & Print
Bumba stands on the northern bank of the Congo River in the Mongala province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, close to the top of the river's great northward curve. On a map, the river dominates everything: a vast, braided channel full of long islands and sandbanks, many times wider than the streets of the town beside it. The town itself extends along the bank, its roads running inland from the waterfront.
The river is the main artery of this region, and Bumba has long served as a port where boats, goods and passengers move along the Congo between Kinshasa and Kisangani. Beyond the town, the land gives way to forest and farmland, crossed by a small number of roads that connect it to the interior. Life here remains closely tied to water and river trade.
