Railway bands
Multiple tracks run through this part of Howrah in wide parallel bands. They are the straightest, strongest lines on the map and the main dividers between neighbourhoods.

关于地图
Chakapara Map Poster & Print
Chakapara is a locality in the Howrah area of West Bengal, on the western side of the Hooghly River across from north Kolkata. It belongs to the dense, continuous urban belt that lines both banks of the river. On the map there is hardly any open ground: streets, lanes and buildings run together with the neighbouring localities in every direction.
Railways are a defining presence in this part of Howrah. Broad bands of track fan out from Howrah Station toward the north and west, and large railway yards and workshops occupy long strips of land nearby. Between them, narrow lanes, small factories, ponds and housing fill the remaining space in an intricate, irregular pattern built up over more than a century.
A Chakapara map poster presents this fabric plainly: the long straight bands of the railway, the river a short distance to the east and the fine, tangled grain of lanes in between. In black and white the result is dense and graphic, a portrait of the industrial Hooghly bank that has shaped daily life here for generations.

The Hooghly nearby
The river lies a short way east. Its broad channel gives the composition a firm edge and links the locality with Kolkata on the opposite bank.
Ponds and lanes
Small tanks and ponds sit among the narrow lanes, a pattern common in Bengal's older settlements that shows up as small pale shapes in the dense fabric.

为什么选Chakapara
一张有意义的地图
Chakapara is not a place tourists seek out, which is exactly why a map of it means so much to the people who live there. It shows the lanes, the tracks and the river they know every day.
