Circasia Map Poster & Print
Circasia lies in the department of Quindío, in the heart of Colombia's coffee-growing region, between the cities of Armenia and Pereira. Like many towns founded during Antioquian colonisation, it was laid out as a grid on a ridge. From above, its streets form a neat rectangle that narrows and bends where the ground drops away into steep, wooded ravines.
Circasia is known in Colombia as a free-thinking town, home to the Cementerio Libre, a cemetery founded in the 1930s as a place where anyone could be buried regardless of belief. The surrounding countryside is part of the Coffee Cultural Landscape recognised by UNESCO, with farms, winding roads and bamboo-lined streams spread across the hills.
