Floresta Map Poster & Print
Floresta is a municipality in the sertão of Pernambuco, the semi-arid interior of northeastern Brazil. Despite its name, which means forest, the landscape around it is caatinga, a dry scrubland of thorny shrubs and cacti adapted to long dry seasons. The town sits beside the Pajeú, a river that flows strongly in the rainy months and can dwindle in the dry season.
On a map the town is a compact grid next to the riverbed, with the river's course running in a winding line near the edge of the streets. Beyond that the land opens into wide, sparsely settled country, crossed by long straight roads and tracks connecting ranches and small communities across the sertão.
