Kapchorwa Map Poster & Print
Kapchorwa sits high on the northern slopes of Mount Elgon in eastern Uganda, in the home area of the Sebei people. The terrain is the main story on the map. Steep ridges and deep valleys run down from the mountain, and roads curve around the contours rather than cutting across them. The town itself is compact, placed on the gentler ground along a main road.
The cool highland climate supports farming on the slopes, including well-regarded Arabica coffee. The region is also famous for long-distance running: Olympic marathon champion Stephen Kiprotich and world record holder Joshua Cheptegei both come from the Kapchorwa area, and the altitude is part of the reason. The Sipi Falls, a popular destination, are on the road up from the plains.
