Kāshmar Map Poster & Print
Kāshmar lies in Razavi Khorasan in northeastern Iran, on a plain that slopes down from the mountains in the north toward drier land in the south. Water from the uplands has long been brought down to the fields, and the town grew as an oasis where that water arrives. On a map, the built-up area is surrounded by a fine pattern of cultivated plots.
The town is known across Iran for its grapes and raisins, and saffron is also grown in the area. Vineyards and orchards fill much of the land around the streets. The outer edges of the map are therefore made of long, narrow parcels and lanes rather than empty desert. Closer in, the streets form a denser, more regular grid crossed by a few wide avenues.
Kāshmar also appears in Persian tradition through the Cypress of Kashmar, a legendary tree said to have been planted by Zoroaster, whose story is told in the Shahnameh. A Kāshmar map poster holds both sides of the town: an ancient name and a plain, modern plan set among its fields.
