Kouroussa Map Poster & Print
Kouroussa lies in Upper Guinea, on the banks of the Niger River not far from its source. On the map, the river forms the town's most important feature, its broad curves passing along one side, while a regular grid of streets fills the land beside it and the savanna stretches out beyond.
The town is best known as the birthplace of Camara Laye, whose novel L'Enfant noir describes his childhood here and is one of the most widely read works of African literature. A railway historically linked Kouroussa to Conakry on the coast and Kankan further inland.
