Kavkazskaya junction
Railway lines converge on the town from several directions, and the sidings fan out into a broad yard. On the map it is the densest, most technical-looking area.

关于地图
Kropotkin Map Poster & Print
Kropotkin stands on the right bank of the Kuban River in Krasnodar Krai, on the flat, open land of the Kuban steppe. From above, a regular grid of long straight streets fills the town, broken by the curving line of the river and its floodplain to one side. Around it lie large rectangular fields, and their geometry makes the town look like an extension of the farmland.
The town grew around Kavkazskaya station, one of the important railway junctions of the North Caucasus. Lines meet there on the way to Rostov, Krasnodar, Stavropol and the Black Sea coast. It was renamed in 1921 after Peter Kropotkin, the geographer and anarchist thinker, and it is one of the few towns anywhere named after him.
A Kropotkin map poster brings out two kinds of line. The first is the disciplined street grid with its broad blocks. The second is the looser, heavier one: rail yards, sidings and the river bending through its floodplain. In black and white the contrast is very clear, like a cross-section of a southern Russian railway town.

The Kuban River
The river bends past the town with a wide floodplain of old channels and wetland. It softens the edge of the rigid grid next to it.
Steppe grid
Long, straight, evenly spaced streets make up most of the town. They repeat the pattern of the huge rectangular fields that surround it on the Kuban plain.

为什么选Kropotkin
一张有意义的地图
Railway families, people who grew up on its long streets, and anyone curious about a town named after a famous anarchist geographer can find something in this map. It is graphic and orderly, with a clear story in its lines.
You can write the title in any form you like, the town's name or an old family address, and add a year to the subtitle. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Blueprint suits the rail yards well.
