Ponds and tanks
Scattered water bodies make small dark shapes between the lanes. They are the most typical feature of village maps across the lower Gangetic plain.

关于地图
Srirāmpur Map Poster & Print
This Srirāmpur lies in the flat, fertile country of southern West Bengal, some distance inland from the Hooghly river. It should not be confused with the better-known riverside town of Serampore. The land here is almost entirely level. Settlement follows the Bengal pattern: clusters of houses along winding lanes, small ponds dotted between them and rice fields running out to the horizon.
From above, the most striking features are the water bodies. Ponds and tanks of many sizes appear as small, sharp shapes among the lanes, used for bathing, fishing and irrigation. Roads rarely run straight for long. They curve around fields and plots that have been farmed for generations, and a rail line or main road gives the area its firmest line.
A Srirāmpur map poster suits people who know this landscape well: those who grew up among the ponds and paddies, or who still come back from Kolkata for festivals and family visits. It gives an everyday rural place in Bengal the careful treatment usually given to capitals.

Winding village lanes
Narrow lanes bend between houses and plots and rarely meet at right angles. Together they form a loose web that is quite unlike a planned grid.
Open paddy country
Around the settlement, the map opens into wide farmland crossed by field tracks. The white space shows how level and cultivated the land is.

为什么选Srirāmpur
一张有意义的地图
A map of Srirāmpur holds a place that many families in Kolkata and beyond still call home. It is a quiet reminder of lanes, ponds and fields that do not appear in guidebooks.
Personalise the title and subtitle, perhaps with a family name or the year you left, and adjust the coordinates line. Then choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand.
