Chhaprauli is a town in the Baghpat district of western Uttar Pradesh, on the fertile plain between the Yamuna and the Ganges. On a map it appears as a tight, irregular core of lanes, with the shape of an older settlement that grew by accretion and not by plan. Around that core, roads fan out to neighbouring villages across open farmland.
The countryside here is some of the most intensively farmed in northern India, and sugarcane is a major crop across the district. From above, the fields form a fine, dense patchwork, with narrow tracks and small canals between them. The town is well connected to the Yamuna region to the west and to Baghpat and Meerut.
