Ciudad Fernández lies in the Zona Media of San Luis Potosí, in the fertile valley of Rioverde. It sits right beside the city of Rioverde, and the two form a single urban area. The town's layout follows the classic Mexican pattern of regular blocks around a main plaza and parish church, with streets extending outwards in a steady grid.
