Kadınhanı is a district town northwest of Konya, set on the broad, level plateau of central Anatolia. From above, the landscape is almost entirely flat, so the town appears as a tidy cluster of blocks with long straight roads running out through farmland. Field boundaries form a faint patchwork around it in every direction.
The town takes its name from a Seljuk-era caravanserai, Kadın Hanı, usually translated as the lady's inn. It was one of the roadside stopping places on the medieval trade routes that crossed this plateau. That history of travel still shows in the map, where the main road forms the spine of the town.
