Perico is a municipality in the eastern part of Matanzas Province, in the level agricultural country of central-western Cuba. From above the town shows the regular pattern common to many Cuban provincial towns: straight streets crossing at right angles and forming even blocks. Fields press close on every side, so the built area stands out as a clear rectangle on open ground.
The surrounding land has long been worked for sugar cane and other crops, and railways were laid across the region to carry the harvest.
