Popova Šapka lies on the slopes of the Šar Mountains in northwestern North Macedonia, above the town of Tetovo. It is a small resort by Alpine standards, made up of hotels, chalets and holiday houses spread loosely across a high shoulder of the mountain. From above there is no dense centre, only scattered buildings, a few internal roads and ski slopes opening onto the broad terrain above.
The approach is a long road that climbs from the Polog valley in steady bends, linking the resort with Tetovo on the plain.
