Webuye lies in Bungoma County in western Kenya, on the main road that runs towards the Uganda border. On the map, that highway and the railway beside it form the town's backbone, with streets and neighbourhoods branching out on either side and farmland spreading across the gently rolling country beyond.
The town was once known as Broderick Falls, after the waterfall on the nearby Nzoia River. It later became known for its large paper mill, one of the biggest industrial sites in the region, and the mill grounds still stand out on the map as a distinct, planned block.
