Wuma lies in the far east of Chongqing municipality, in the rugged hill country around the Three Gorges stretch of the Yangtze. Almost nothing here is flat. Settlements cling to terraces and valley floors, and roads have to climb in switchbacks or follow streams, so even a small township has a winding, irregular outline on the map.
