The Ishikari River
Hokkaido's longest river runs past the town in broad curves. On the poster it is the strongest single line, separating the settled bank from the farmland beyond.

Fukagawa Map Poster & Print
Fukagawa sits in the Sorachi area of central Hokkaido, on the Ishikari River. From above, the town is a tight cluster of streets surrounded by very large, flat farmland. The river bends past the built-up area, and the surrounding plain is split into long rectangular paddies. That pattern reads as a fine, even texture once the map is reduced to black and white.
The town grew up as a farming settlement, and rice is still what defines it. Fields run right up to the edge of the houses, so the boundary between town and country shows up clearly on paper. Railway lines cross the centre, and their straight tracks cut through the curving river landscape in a way that gives a Fukagawa map poster a quiet structure.
Beyond the plain, low hills rise on either side of the valley, and their roads follow the contours instead of the grid. It is a place of wide skies and long winters, and the map shows that openness: a small, dense core with a great deal of surrounding space, where the lines are mostly field edges and irrigation channels.

Paddy field grid
Rice fields cover the plain in long rectangles. Printed in fine lines, they form an almost woven background that frames the small urban centre.
Railway through town
Straight rail alignments cross the town centre and stretch out across the fields, giving the composition firm diagonals against the river's softer shape.

কেন Fukagawa
এমন একটি ম্যাপ, যার একটা মানে আছে
People who grew up in Fukagawa, or who have family on its farms, tend to recognise the river bend and the field pattern straight away. It is a modest map, and a very personal one, especially for anyone who has moved away from Hokkaido.
You can add your own title, a subtitle such as a family name or a year, and the coordinates line. Then pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, depending on the room it will hang in.
