Open border line
The frontier between Uruguay and Brazil runs through the city streets rather than along a river, so the two street grids join seamlessly across the centre of the map.

Rivera Map Poster & Print
Rivera, in northern Uruguay, forms one continuous urban area with the Brazilian city of Santana do Livramento. There is no fence or river between them. The international border runs along streets and through a park, and residents cross it constantly in the course of their day. On a map the two cities read as one, with the boundary only a faint line through a continuous street network.
The Parque Internacional sits directly on the border, a green space that belongs to both countries. Around it, Rivera's grid spreads south and west over gently rolling land, with low hills rising around the town. The surrounding countryside is the open grassland typical of the Uruguayan and southern Brazilian interior, crossed by roads that lead out to farms and ranches.
A Rivera map poster is a portrait of a border that barely exists on the ground. Unbroken streets that pass from one country into another make it unusual among city maps, and the composition naturally takes in both sides. It is a natural choice for anyone who has lived in this bilingual border world, where Spanish and Portuguese are both part of daily life.

Parque Internacional
The international park straddles the boundary. This green space, shared by both countries, appears as a clear open shape in the middle of the urban fabric.
Grid over low hills
Rivera's streets extend in a regular pattern over gently rolling ground, and the rises around the town give the outer districts a slightly irregular edge.
