Blauwput is the neighbourhood of Kessel-Lo that lies directly behind Leuven's railway station, on the eastern side of the tracks. For many people it is the first part of Leuven they reach when they arrive by train and head away from the centre, and its streets have a practical, lived-in character shaped by their closeness to the station.
On the map the railway dominates. The wide band of tracks and platforms runs along the neighbourhood's edge, crossed at only a few points by bridges and underpasses, so Blauwput feels separate from the historic centre even though it lies within walking distance. Streets inside the neighbourhood are short and closely spaced, with terraced houses and busier roads leading east.
