Farrāshband is a town in Fars province, south of Shiraz, in the folded country of the Zagros mountains. On a map the setting is immediately recognisable: long ridges run in parallel bands, and the town occupies a flat stretch of valley floor between them, surrounded by fields and orchards.
The town itself is compact. A main road carries traffic through the centre, with a mesh of residential streets on either side and farmland pressing in at the edges. Roads leave the valley along the lines of least resistance, following the grain of the mountains rather than cutting across it.
