Oasis boundary
The line where irrigated land stops is the strongest feature on the map, a crisp division between dense field patterns and the unmarked ground beyond.

关于地图
Akesalayi Map Poster & Print
Akesalayi lies in the oasis belt of southern Xinjiang, west of the city of Hotan, between the Kunlun Mountains to the south and the Taklamakan Desert to the north. Settlement here depends entirely on water brought down from the mountains, and the map makes that dependency visible: a patch of streets and farmland with a clearly defined edge.
Inside that edge the pattern is agricultural. Rectangular fields, straight irrigation channels and rows of farm roads divide the land into an orderly patchwork, and houses gather along the main routes. Outside it, the map empties almost completely. Few kinds of landscape show the contrast between cultivated and uncultivated ground as sharply as an oasis seen from above.
An Akesalayi map poster works with that contrast. In black and white the settled area becomes a textured block of fine lines, while the surrounding desert stays pale and quiet on the paper. The result is a restrained print about how people shape land where water is scarce, and about a place that rarely appears on anyone's wall.

Irrigation grid
Channels and field roads run in long straight lines, dividing the farmland into regular blocks that give the print a fine, woven texture.
Mountain-fed water
The water that sustains the oasis comes from rivers flowing down from the Kunlun range, which is why settlement here follows the water rather than spreading into the desert.

为什么选 Akesalayi
一张有意义的地图
Oases around Hotan are rarely seen as wall art, which is part of the appeal. For someone with roots in Akesalayi, or who has travelled the old southern Silk Road, the map is a precise and personal reminder of a very particular landscape.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, and pick one of five styles. Sand suits the desert setting, while Noir or Blueprint give a more graphic look. HD files cost $9 and come in six print sizes, each as a 300 DPI PNG and a print-ready PDF.
