Annecy Map Poster & Print
Annecy occupies the northern end of Lake Annecy in Haute-Savoie, where the water narrows and drains away through the Thiou river. On a map, the lake takes up the southeast, a broad pale shape with roads along both shores, while the town spreads north and west across flatter ground. Steep slopes rise to the east and south, pressing the streets into a tight arc around the shore.
The old town lies on both sides of the Thiou and its canals, a dense knot of narrow lanes around the Palais de l'Isle, a medieval building on a small island in the channel. The château stands on the hill just above. These waterways earned Annecy the nickname Venice of the Alps, and an Annecy map poster shows them as fine lines cutting through the smallest blocks in town.
Along the lakefront, open lawns and gardens leave generous white space between the water and the streets. Annecy is also known around the world for its international animation film festival, founded in 1960. Beyond the centre, newer districts and the neighbouring communes fill the basin, giving the poster a clear gradient from medieval core to modern suburbs.

The Thiou and its canals carry lake water through the old town. Their narrow channels divide tiny blocks and island buildings, a pattern rarely seen this clearly in an Alpine town.
Mountain edge
Slopes rise steeply beside the lake, so streets stop abruptly or climb in switchbacks. That sudden thinning of the network marks where the town meets the mountains.
