Bageqi lies in the Hotan area of southern Xinjiang, where meltwater from the Kunlun Mountains feeds a chain of oases along the edge of the Taklamakan Desert. From above, the settlement is part of that irrigated world. Roads and water channels run in straight lines through farmland, and villages cluster along them before the land fades into sand.
The town is small and not widely documented in English sources, so the map is the most honest way to describe it. What it shows is typical of the Hotan oases: an orderly network of field roads, compact built-up areas, and a sharp boundary where cultivation stops and the desert begins.
A Bageqi map poster captures an unusual kind of landscape. The streets are drawn against a background shaped by water management, not by hills or coastline, and the lines of roads and canals carry the whole design. In a minimal black-and-white style, the oasis looks almost like a drawing of a field system.
