Qutang Gorge
East of the town the Yangtze squeezes between cliffs into the first of the Three Gorges, a sharp narrowing that becomes the dramatic focal point of the poster.

关于地图
Baidi Map Poster & Print
Baidi lies in Fengjie County in the northeast of Chongqing Municipality, at the western entrance to the Three Gorges of the Yangtze. Here the river turns from a broad valley into the narrow Qutang Gorge, and the map records that change dramatically: wide water upstream, then a sudden pinch between steep mountains.
The town is built on the slopes above the river, its streets climbing in terraces and switchbacks rather than following a grid. Since the Three Gorges Dam raised the water level, the Yangtze here has become wider and calmer, turning Baidicheng, the old White Emperor City, into a small island linked to the shore by a bridge.
A Baidi map poster brings together terrain, river and a long literary tradition. The White Emperor City appears in Li Bai's famous poem about leaving Baidi at dawn, and the Kuimen gate of Qutang Gorge is pictured on the ten-yuan banknote. On the map, the gorge and the bending river make one of the most expressive shapes in China.

Baidicheng island
The hill of the White Emperor City, now surrounded by the raised river, appears as a small island joined to the bank, a clear and memorable shape.
Terraced streets
Roads on the hillsides switch back and forth to climb the slopes, creating looping, contour-like lines very different from a flat city grid.

为什么选 Baidi
一张有意义的地图
Baidi is a place many people know through poetry and river journeys before they ever see it. A map of the gorge and the town is a way to hold that combination of landscape and literature, whether you travelled the Yangtze or grew up above it.
Add a line of verse, a travel date or a family name to the title and subtitle, and keep the coordinates. Choose from Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. HD files are $9, and printed posters ship from partners in over 30 countries.
