Banfield Map Poster & Print
Banfield is a locality in Lomas de Zamora partido, in the southern part of Greater Buenos Aires. From above it is almost entirely grid: square blocks of low houses, tree-lined streets and small plazas, continuing without a break into neighbouring suburbs. The Roca line railway runs through the middle, and the station is the centre of local life.
The town grew around the railway in the late nineteenth century and is named after a British railway manager. It is widely known for Club Atlético Banfield, whose stadium is a landmark of the south side. The writer Julio Cortázar spent his childhood here and wrote about the neighbourhood in several stories.
