Bexbach lies in the Saarpfalz district in the east of Saarland, close to Homburg and the border with Rhineland-Palatinate. The town brings together several formerly separate villages. From above it appears as a series of built-up areas strung along valleys and joined by roads, with forest and farmland filling the spaces between.
Coal mining shaped much of the area's development. The town keeps its industrial past alive in a mining museum inside the Hindenburgturm, a tower in the Blumengarten, Bexbach's landscaped flower park. On the map the park is a distinct green shape whose paths draw a finer pattern than the streets around it.
