Calafell Map Poster & Print
Calafell is on the Costa Daurada in Catalonia, in the Baix Penedès area of Tarragona province. It is really two places joined together. Inland, the old village climbs a small hill crowned by the remains of a castle and a church. On the coast, the beach district stretches along a long, gently curving shoreline of sand, with Segur de Calafell further along.
On a map the contrast is clear. The old village shows as a compact knot of narrow, irregular streets on the hill. The coastal area is organised in more regular blocks laid out parallel to the seafront promenade. Roads and a railway line run between the two, crossing the flat ground that was once farmland.
Calafell also has a reconstructed Iberian settlement near the coast, a reminder that people lived here long before the resort.
