Devrek lies inland in Zonguldak Province, in the wooded, hilly country behind Turkey's western Black Sea coast. The town sits in a valley, and its layout follows the river and the valley floor, with streets stretching lengthwise and residential quarters climbing the lower slopes. Beyond the built area, the map quickly fills with forest and winding rural roads.
Devrek is known throughout Turkey for its walking canes, the Devrek bastonu, hand-carved from local woods and traditionally decorated with fine patterns. The craft has become the town's calling card and is closely tied to the forests that surround it.
