Sandstone hills
Rocky hills rise around the town and give it its name. They shape where the settlement could spread, leaving open patches along its edges.

关于地图
Dogondoutchi Map Poster & Print
Dogondoutchi lies in the Dosso Region of southwestern Niger, on the main road between Niamey and Birni-N'Konni. Its name is usually understood in Hausa to mean tall rock, a reference to the sandstone hills that rise around the town, and it sits near the Dallol Maouri, a broad fossil river valley that runs through the region.
The town is a centre of the Mawri, a Hausa-speaking people with long-established traditions of their own, in the area historically known as Arewa. From above the settlement forms a compact mass of lanes and compounds with the national road running through it, and open ground and rocky outcrops at the edges. The contrast is striking in black and white.
A Dogondoutchi map poster offers a rare view of a Sahelian town's structure, the kind of place most people only glimpse from the road. It suits people from Dosso and Arewa, those who have lived or worked in Niger, and anyone who responds to the spare beauty of dense streets set within vast, open land.

National road
The main road between Niamey and Birni-N'Konni runs through town, a clear straight axis that organises the surrounding lanes and compounds.
Compact lanes
The older quarters form a dense, irregular web of narrow lanes and compounds, a texture that reads beautifully when drawn in fine black strokes.

为什么选 Dogondoutchi
一张有意义的地图
Few maps of Dogondoutchi exist outside official documents, which makes a clear, carefully drawn version feel meaningful. It suits a family home in Niamey, a returning aid worker's study, or anyone who remembers the rock formations rising out of the plain.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line with a name or date, and choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand suits the Sahel especially well. Files cost $9; printed posters are also available.
