Filakit lies in the highlands of the Amhara Region in northern Ethiopia, in the North Wollo area, where the land rises into high plateaus broken by deep gorges. The town sits on elevated ground, and on a map it appears as a compact cluster of streets strung along the main road that crosses this part of the highlands.
