Filingué Map Poster
Filingué is a town in the Tillabéri region of western Niger, north-east of Niamey. It stands at the edge of the Dallol Bosso, a wide, ancient river valley that now holds water only seasonally. On the map, the town is a loose cluster of compounds and lanes. The valley floor below it shows up as a softer, more fertile band than the plateau around it.
Streets here are not regular. The settlement grows outwards in irregular blocks and walled plots, and tracks run off towards surrounding villages and fields. In black and white, the result is a fine, sprawling texture with no hard edges. The town seems to merge gradually into the landscape.
