Hāthras Map Poster & Print
Hāthras lies in western Uttar Pradesh, on the flat plain between the Ganges and the Yamuna, within easy reach of Aligarh, Agra and Mathura. The map shows a dense core of narrow lanes and closely packed blocks, surrounded by newer neighbourhoods with slightly wider streets. Railway lines cross the area and meet near the town, giving it clear straight edges against the irregular streets of the older quarters.
The town is best known for processing asafoetida, or hing, and has been a centre of that trade for generations. It is also linked with the popular Hindi satirical poet Kaka Hathrasi, who took the town's name as part of his pen name. Around the town, farmland stretches out in every direction, typical of the Doab plain.
