Kongolo Map Poster & Print
Kongolo lies in Tanganyika Province, in the southeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, on the Lualaba River, the upper course of the Congo. The river is the backbone of the map. It runs through the frame as a broad, strong line, with the town's streets spread over the land beside it and roads leading away into savanna and woodland.
Kongolo is a crossing point. A railway bridge carries the line over the Lualaba here, an important link in the country's eastern rail network. Not far from town, the river squeezes through a narrow gorge known as the Portes d'Enfer, the Gates of Hell, where the water breaks into rapids between steep rock walls.
