Mahiari is a census town in Howrah district, West Bengal, on the western side of the Kolkata urban area near Andul. On a map it shows the dense, fine-grained pattern of the lower Gangetic plain. Narrow lanes run between houses, and many ponds and small water bodies are scattered among the buildings.
The land is flat and low, and water appears everywhere. The ponds, locally called pukur, show up as small irregular shapes throughout the settlement. A railway line passes nearby and connects the area with Howrah and the city, giving the otherwise intricate map a firm straight line.
