Compound pattern
Much of Mayahi is made up of family compounds. On the map, they create a distinctive cellular texture, unlike the regular blocks of planned cities.

关于地图
Mayahi Map Poster & Print
Mayahi is a town in the Maradi Region of southern Niger, in the Sahel belt between the Sahara and the wetter lands to the south. The countryside is flat and dry for much of the year, used for rain-fed farming and herding. The town serves as the centre of its department and a market for the villages around it.
From above, Mayahi looks nothing like a gridded city. Buildings are grouped in walled compounds, and the spaces between them form an irregular network of sandy streets and tracks. Main roads cross the town and connect it to Maradi and other centres, but most of the plan is made up of short, organic paths.
A Mayahi map poster reduces all of this to black lines on a pale ground, which is fitting for a landscape where open space dominates. The poster shows a Sahelian market town as it really lies on the land: compact at the centre, dissolving slowly into fields and bush at the edges.

Roads to Maradi
Roads connect Mayahi to the regional capital, Maradi, and neighbouring towns. They are the longest, straightest lines on the poster, crossing the open plain.
Open Sahel
Beyond the town, the map is mostly empty: farmland and dry country with few roads. That space makes the town's outline stand out clearly.
