Sinfin sits on the southern side of Derby, and from above it reads as a place where the city loosens its grip. Curving residential streets and closed loops of housing give way to broad industrial footprints, and then to the open ground of moor and farmland beyond. On a monochrome map, those three textures sit side by side with unusual clarity.
The district is closely tied to engineering. Rolls-Royce has long operated a large site here, and its expansive buildings and service roads show up as big, calm rectangles against the finer grain of the surrounding housing.
