Bukit Mertajam hill
The forested hill east of town appears as a large open area crossed by only a few trails, a quiet counterweight to the busy streets beside it.

Bukit Mertajam Map Poster & Print
Bukit Mertajam is the main town of Central Seberang Perai, on the mainland side of Penang, and it takes its name from the hill that rises beside it. From above, the town is a dense cluster of shophouse streets and markets surrounded by housing estates. To the east the grid stops abruptly against the green mass of Bukit Mertajam hill.
The hill is a forest reserve with hiking trails. The town is also known for St Anne's Church, whose annual feast draws large numbers of pilgrims from across Malaysia. Bukit Mertajam sits on the west coast railway and has long served as a trading centre for the farming and industrial districts of the Penang mainland.
A Bukit Mertajam map poster captures the relationship between a busy market town and the hill that gave it its name. It is a fitting piece for families who have lived here for generations and for anyone who remembers the old shophouse quarter from childhood, before new estates spread across the surrounding land.

Old town centre
Tight blocks of shophouse streets and markets form the densest part of the poster, laid out in a compact, slightly irregular pattern.
Railway line
The west coast railway crosses the town in a long, gentle line, and the station marks a clear point close to the centre.

People hang this map because Bukit Mertajam is where the family business was, where the weekend hill walks happened, or where they came home for the feast of St Anne. It is personal before it is decorative.
