Shikarpur lies on the flat plain of upper Sindh, west of the Indus and not far from Sukkur. On the map the old town shows as a dense, irregular core, its lanes too tight and winding to follow any grid, surrounded by newer streets that spread out along the main roads. For centuries Shikarpur was a trading and banking town on the routes toward Kandahar and Central Asia, sometimes described as a gateway to Khorasan.
