Foothill setting
Dry ridges to the south frame the town, and the way roads bend to meet them gives the lower part of the map a sense of rising ground even in plain black and white.

El mapa
Batken Map Poster & Print
Batken lies in the far south-west of Kyrgyzstan, on the southern edge of the Fergana Valley, where dry foothills rise towards the Turkestan Range. It became the centre of the newly created Batken Region in 1999, and the town has grown to match that administrative role. From above, its streets sit on gently sloping ground, with irrigated gardens and fields giving way quickly to bare hills.
The surrounding district is known for apricots, grown in orchards watered by streams coming down from the mountains, and the green patches of cultivation stand out sharply against the arid ground. The region also has one of the most intricate border landscapes in Central Asia, with Tajikistan and Uzbekistan close by and enclaves scattered through the valley.
A Batken map poster shows a town defined by the contrast between watered land and dry slopes. Streets run in fairly regular lines through the centre, while the edges dissolve into orchard plots and tracks leading into the foothills. It is a meaningful print for people from the region, and for anyone who has travelled or worked in this corner of the Fergana Valley.

Orchard belt
Around the town, small irrigated plots and gardens, many of them apricot orchards, form a fine patchwork that softens the transition from streets to open land.
Main roads
A few long roads connect Batken with the rest of the valley, forming strong lines across the sheet that give the composition its direction.
