El mapa
Bayandai lies in the broad Ili River valley in the far west of Xinjiang, close to the city of Yining and not far from the border with Kazakhstan. Unlike much of Xinjiang, this valley is green and well watered, and the map around the town is dense with irrigation channels, tree-lined roads and the long, narrow plots of cultivated fields.
The town itself is modest, a cluster of streets around a main road with houses set among gardens and orchards. A Bayandai map poster shows how tightly the settlement is woven into its farmland: there is no hard edge between town and fields, only a gradual thinning of streets into canals and farm lanes.
On clear days the ranges of the Tian Shan are visible on both sides of the valley, and the Ili River flows west toward Kazakhstan and eventually Lake Balkhash. On a wider frame, the river's braided channels and floodplain appear as soft, overlapping lines to the south of the town.
Canals and ditches cross the land in straight and gently curving lines, the defining texture of the Ili valley and the basis of its farming.
Streets loosen outward from a main road into lanes lined with houses and orchards, with no sharp boundary between town and countryside.
To the south, the Ili spreads into several channels across a wide floodplain, drawing soft, braided lines on the lower part of the map.

Por qué Bayandai
Bayandai is a map for people with ties to the Ili valley, or for travellers who remember the green fields around Yining after long stretches of desert. It shows a side of Xinjiang shaped by water rather than sand.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, then choose one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. The $9 download includes all six print sizes as PNG and PDF, without a watermark.
